PRAYER as a Way of Life by Sis. Cristy and Bro.
Rolly Custodio
RESPECT THE ELDERS ESPECIALLY YOUR PARENTS (PART-2)
‘Let there be no strife between you and me… for we
are brothers’ Genesis 13:8NAS
Today’s Insight
So in Genesis 13, we have a story that shows one family with
two outlooks. Abram, driven by faith, is a giver; Lot, driven by security, is a
taker. Out of respect, Lot should have looked after his aging uncle’s welfare
rather than putting his own first. Unfortunately he looked out for ‘number one’
instead.
Abram could have assumed
his top-dog status and ensured that this scrap of a nephew knew his rightful
place. He didn’t; he showed grace.
Read on further in the Bible passage and you’ll see
that Lot’s denial of Abram lands him right in the middle of 24-hour party
island, where anything goes – including sexual depravity, idol worship and
violence. In the space of just six chapters, it’s destroyed. Good deal? Abram,
on the other hand, (who has through all this stuck stubbornly to his child-like
faith in God) becomes a ‘father to nations’, as God promises him, ‘Look…
northward and southward and eastward and westward… all the land which you see,
I will give it to you and to your descendants forever’ (Genesis 13:14-15 NAS).
Christian Life 101: it pays to stick to your Godly values. Good deal.
Application:
Which do you value most – security or faith? Take
courage and ask God to take away your comfort in order to lean more on Him.
